Nourishment and You: Are You Ready for Spring?

Want to feel full of Spring Energy? Yes please!

We look around and we see nature come alive. We feel those little surges of excitement coming through us when the rays of the sun warm us up. We know it, because we can feel it. Spring is in the air.

This is also the time we start feeling like, okay, time for a change. We want to feel better, to get rid of the extra pounds we put on to keep us warm for the winter, and get our energy level to match the sprouting of the season.

Everything around us starts looking like it needs a refresher and we feel it too. Time to refresh, rejuvenate, restart, and reset your body and be reborn. Everyone is talking about a spring cleansing: fasting, detox, or diet. Do you need one?


Why a detox?

The best person to determine if you need a detox is you. Our body gives us all the signals but we have numbed our sensitivity to these messages. In our busy lives, we tend to think that it’s normal to have these symptoms because we’re stressed, live in big cities, and don’t have enough time to eat well and exercise. So what do we do? We ignore the signals and live with it.

But maybe instead it’s time for some self-evaluation. Maybe it’s time to deconstruct and revisit our foods and our lifestyle—what we choose, how much we eat, the quality of what we eat, and how we take care of our Self. It’s not necessarily true that a detox “saves the day,” but it can reset the body’s system, helping us to function better and give us more energy, better health, and hopefully, get rid of the winter drag.


You might consider a detox if you:

  • Have difficulty concentrating
  • Are mentally sluggish
  • Experience slow or fuzzy thinking
  • Are fatigued
  • Have allergies
  • Have bad breath
  • Have bowel or elimination problems (constipation, for example)
  • Are depressed
  • Have headaches or migraines
  • Are irritable
  • Have muscle and joint pain
  • Experience mood swings
