Kids under seventeen aren’t allowed to see a movie where two naked people have sex because someone somewhere thinks they aren’t mature enough to make the right decision about entering into a sexual relationship. Kids under thirteen aren’t allowed to see a movie about people cooking crystal meth because someone somewhere thinks they’re not mature enough to make the right decision about using or not using drugs. Why do we assume that kids—or people of any age, for that matter— are mature enough to make a decision about smoking?
