Bathroom Stuff

So here’s why sometimes I’m late to work or sometimes even miss work in the morning:

1. Snooze for about an hour
2. Check my email and Myspace (hehehe) and make a pot of coffee
3. Go to the bathroom and put my hair in a ponytail and headband
4. Take out nightguard and rinse it
5. Prepare the nightguard cleaning solution and put the nightguard in it
6. Brush teeth
7. Listerine
8. Put in contacts
9. Start the shower and get in (oh! not before I turn on my bathroom radio and find a station that’s playing something good)
10. Shampoo
11. Conditioner
12. Soap
13. Sometimes shave
14. Wash face with face cleanser
15. Get out and dry off
16. Apply benzoyl peroxide (hey, I used to have a bad acne problem and I’m paranoid, ok?)
17. Clean ears with Q-tips
18. Pick an outfit
19. Moisturize face
19. Apply body lotion
20. Get dressed
21. Let my hair out of the towel
22. Apply a heat-protectant spray into my wet hair
23. Brush my hair and put on a headband
24. Apply makeup (this process itself is a whole other complicated step process)
25. Blow-dry hair
26. Accessorize with a watch, rings, necklaces, etc.
27. Spend some time trying to match to my outfit some shoes and a jacket
28. Feed the fish
29. Put my stuff together in my bag
30. Drink a cup of coffee or take it to go
31. Walk out the door.

And that, folks, is why I need to get up two hours before my first appointment or meeting or work. Scary thing is ... I’ve already thought about what I can take out of my routine to make it shorter and faster, but none of the steps are negotiable for me, and I just keep adding and adding more things as the years go by. Geez, it sure is work to stay young and healthy! By the time I’m forty, I’m going to have to get ready for bed at least two hours in advanced and wake up four hours before I need to be somewhere. I can’t wait.
