Pre-Mature Menopause: Part III

By: Mrs. Dee (View Profile)

Menopause does not have to be approached this way. Yes, we can take HRT and herbs but the main issue is to learn about the topic and learn to cope with it.

How we react and approach to menopausal symptoms varies from woman to woman and from culture to culture. Our sociological imagination can make or break the different stages of menopause as our mental aptitudes towards the subject differentiate.

For example, it is said that Japanese women do not go through menopause. In fact, the word menopause in the Japanese culture does not even exist. This is due to a high diet intake of phytoestrogens found in soya bean products. Phytoestrogens are found naturally in chickpeas, lentils, legumes, linseed and citrus fruit. Scientists are studying the remarkable findings of phytoestrogens and the link to menopause. Wouldn’t it be great to recede from menopausal symptoms just by approaching our eating habits with healthy ones? I am all for it.

In the meantime, America is facing breast cancer more than ever. While cancer has different faces, in this case breast cancer, there has been a link to it by taking hormone replacement therapy. The American Cancer Society did their own study and they say, “If you need it [HRT], take the lowest dose possible for the shortest time possible”.

Women face a challenge with themselves and menopause because they are conditioned to speak to their doctors when they have the symptoms. Some women are so attached to their doctor that they listen and do what the doctors says and recommends. Of course a doctor will recommend a hormone replacement therapy, but there is more to HRT than simply trying to inject a hormone that no longer will be invade our bodies naturally, so why opt for something that is not going to be a part of our bodies anymore?

These replacement hormones are chemically bound and injected in our bloodstream and since our bodies will no longer produce estrogen, the best way to rid the body of them is to let it occur naturally. Why women use HRT is a personal choice. Is it the fear of aging, wrinkles, loss of libido and the many factors that come along with it? Menopause is a natural occurrence and our chronological age will speak for itself if only we let it control us.
