Wow, it has been awhile since I last wrote and article, some things have changed. I am still working in childcare and am still enjoying my job. I am going through a lot right now, health wise. Over the past several months some things have changed like my skin, weight loss and my appetite to name a few. I have been to the doctor a number of times, but nothing was done. I had a persistent cough for several months, while he did put me on antibiotics, it did not help. He kept telling me that he had noticed a change in my skin and hands.
After about five-six months, he finally sent me to a specialist. That specialist sent me to another specialist who at the present time is my current health care provider. During that time, I sent a number of signals, especially with the way my hands look. I shared with him that my hands were swollen; all he asked is if it was uncomfortable. He didn’t give me anything for the swelling, nor did he run tests to see what might be causing the swelling. I don’t think or feel that he did enough to help me.
With all of the tests completed, my diagnosis is Scleroderma. It is a rare auto immune disease—it can be fatal. There is no cure for it. I am fighting for my life. All the doctors can do is give me medicine to slow the progression down. It is affecting my organs. I have been through a number of tests and procedures to check my organs. I was told that, in my case, the best treatment is chemotherapy. I had my first treatment this past week. I am also taking a number of medications.
I am still working. My bosses have been great. They have been understanding and very supportive. My friends that I have shared this with have also been very understanding and supportive as well. I am also beginning to open up with some of my co-workers about what is wrong. Some of them are very concerned. I am taking that slowly, about how much I share with them. I have also let some people know at the church I attend. I have received support from there. I have a lot of people praying for me.
