I Did It. I Said No.

Why I Coach
One of the reasons that I adore this work is because I can help inspire women to be the best they can be. I love it when I see clients stand stronger against things that don’t suit their needs or values. I celebrate with them as they create more room for themselves and for joy in their lives.

I became excited about this a few years ago when I was coached myself and started to learn to let go of things that don’t serve me anymore in my life. It has been a long journey and I am still working on it. But, even when a coaching relationship ends, the coaching stays with you.

Today I am celebrating because I caught myself starting to fall into an old pattern and pulled out.

Big Difference
I had the opportunity to work with a non-profit organization that I really believe in. The money was good and the hours were part time, which is what I wanted. When I went through the interview I could see that my skills would be well suited for the position. The people I met were wonderful and the idea of making a “big” difference in the community was very intriguing to me.

As I contemplated the position I had a little voice pop up in my head (she sounded just like my first coach). She was reminding me of how engrossed and involved I tend to get about this kind of involvement. I started to see that this would be another repeat in the wallpaper pattern of my life. Start off small, get emotionally attached, do more than is expected of me, get stressed, stop doing things I enjoy, and finally burn out. Oh boy, here I go again.

I also reminded myself that I don’t have to get involved at a “big” level within the community to make a difference. We all can make a difference each and every day of our lives just by be being the change we want to see in this world. We can do this through being present, positive and contributing in our own ways.
