For instance a portion of the proceeds of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s show went to Mango Tribe, a multidisciplinary women’s art group, that is a space where women can express themselves through dance, spoken word, song, and other forms of media to share their own experiences or stories of women around the world. At the same time a domestic violence shelter, a rape advocacy network, and the UIC campus advocacy network also benefited from the UIC production. So eating pussy may be peculiar, but don’t some people literally eat it anyways and enjoy it?
The V-day movement is still fresh but in five short years it has spread to every continent and to major cities worldwide. College campuses across the nation are only a few of the places where the Vagina Monologues are being performed. Places like Pakistan, Mexico, China, Africa, and others are places were the Vagina Monologues can be seen. These are the same places where much of the violence is occurring, but still the activists there are trying to change their countries in spite of the escalating violence and cruelty.
Valentine’s Day is a day of love. Love is the impetus for ending violence. Naming February 14th as the victory over violence day epitomizes the whole V-day movement. Humans must come together and see past our differences and realize that we all come from the same place. What better day is there to do this?
