If you have a friend, co-worker, sibling, or associate that is in this type of situation believe in the survivor as a survivor rather than a victim. Listen and be helpful without making decisions or judgments.  Be patient—this situation didn’t develop overnight and it won’t be resolved in that slim amount of time either.
