The Queen of Sheba and Hannah – Book Review

By: Angela Watkins (View Profile)

Tips from a Book I reviewed in 2007.
The Queen of Sheba (I Kings 10:1-29)

The Queen of Sheba possessed with extravagant gifts, embarked on a long, dangerous journey to visit this King Solomon, whose wisdom and faith were known throughout the world.

The Bible records that Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and she returned to her own country.

Truly wise women search for God.

Never stop searching for God’s Word, and seeking Jesus—The Way, The Truth, and The Life.

The parting words of the writer’s physician as she left the examining room were, “Remain Calm.” After she saw her doctor, she advised further evaluation and a mammogram to be done the following week.

Knowing that breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women, the writer’s greatest concern was: If I died, who would help raise my then five-year old son?

During the writer’s week of waiting, she spoke at a women’s conference. She used I Samuel as her Scripture text, with Hannah as a model mother.

Hannah loved her son Samuel and trained him to know God. After he was weaned, she had to release her son to Eli, the priest.

For the first time, the writer felt peaceful about her impeding diagnosis. She knew she had trained her son to know and love God. He had been in God’s hands all along.

Visits with the radiologist, confirmed by biopsies, should no sign of cancer, merely fibroid tumors.

Praise God, it had been a false alarm.

But even if it weren’t, the writer still likes her doctor’s advice: “Remain Calm.”

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)

Choose to trust Him on the rainy days as well as when the sun is shining.
