Learn to Be Still in Transition

By: Janet Rebhan (View Profile)

I was brought up to believe that “God helps those who help themselves,” and I was taught at an early age that if I had enough faith–even faith the size of a little mustard seed–that I could move mountains. So, I vacillated for a long time between thinking I needed to work harder at keeping my thoughts positive and my belief strong, and finally realizing I needed to surrender my desires to the much higher and eternal goals of my soul.

It is through transitions that we align our lower selves (ego or personality) with our higher selves (soul or God). And it is through transitions we become conscious of core beliefs that may be keeping us from manifesting our desires.

While some belief systems teach that the ego should be killed off, it plays a very important part in our overall health. Without ego we couldn’t function as fully realized human beings. Ego and soul need to work together: each one supporting the other in a delicate balance.

Transitions give birth to this equilibrium, and as in childbirth, they can be quite painful, but in the end we usually have something to show for it. With the transition in childbirth, the intended result is a new life. With a spiritual transition, the intended result is also a new life in the form of a new outlook, inner peace, or a fulfillment that can’t be bought with money and won’t be left behind when we make the ultimate transition at physical death.

Transitions can also give birth to new belief systems (no easy feat) that help us manifest our soul’s desires. A new life indeed.

The analogy of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly has been used so many times to make this point that it is almost a cliché. However, it is still one of the best examples we have to help us understand what happens when we transition from human beings operating strictly on a physical level to human beings transforming into more spiritually enlightened individuals.

I once questioned why, if our highest purpose was to be spiritual, we are even here in human form on earth in the first place. Why not just stay in the spiritual realm and not incarnate at all?
