I try to make it a daily practice to look for what I call “GodWinks” in my everyday life. These are moments where I see God at work, and when I can feel Him reaching through space and time to me personally.
I think of it as if I were at a huge family wedding. It is very crowded and loud. Across the room, I catch a glimpse of my (heavenly) daddy. We share a sweet moment of acknowledgement. He gives me a quick wink to let me know he sees me there. Mouthing the words, “I love you,” he lets me know how I precious I am to Him. In a fleeting second, the moment is gone and the cacophony of the wedding returns.
Winks are very subtle...you’ll never see one unless you are looking for it.
I get winks all over the place! Today, one of my car tires blew out on the highway. Getting the behemoth over to the side of the road was a trick in itself. Thinking I’d rather not die today from being rear-ended, I threw on the flashers, got out, locked it and enjoyed my first walk ever on Highway 101.
Just then, my cell phone rang. I yelled to my friend, “I can’t talk! I am walking on the highway! I had a flat tire!”
She answered, “Where are you?! I will be right there!”
I told her and hung up knowing she would be there in several minutes. Once I made it to an actual street-corner, I stood there a minute not quite believing what was happening. Just then, a car pulled up, the window went down, and it was an old friend I have known for years. “Get in!” she yelled over the traffic noise.
Once inside, she said she had been traveling up to Costco. Turning her head she had thought, “Isn’t that Gigi walking on the freeway?” Just in case, she went a few miles out of her way, first off, then back on, then all the way around, circling back just to see if that was me. It was.
On the way to my home to call AAA, my cell phone rang again. It was someone I do not know. “Hi – I am Lindsay. You don’t know me. I am a mom at your kids’ school. I saw your car and found your cell phone number in the school directory. Are you okay? Do you need a ride?”
“Who are you again?” I queried lamely.
“A mom from the kids’ school. Are you okay?”
“Yes, yes. Thank you so much for calling! I am fine.”
I had to call the first friend back again to say, “Never mind coming now. I already got a ride. Thank you so much for being willing to come get me!” She was half way there already, but thanked me for getting her out of bed and out of the house. She’d been having trouble doing that this morning.
So there it was: A winking extravaganza today!
God, who cares about my every need, sent not one, not two, but three angels to my assistance today.
If I ever think I am alone in the world, would you just wake me up and tell me I am being irrational? Tell me to look for the winking God who appears all over the place when I am looking for Him.

I LOVE this, and like you, I realize and feel humbled by the "winks" I receive in everyday life. I feel blessed and am not afraid to be thankful for it either. Thank you!
