Who Says We Are the Weaker Gender?

By: Emily V (View Profile)

I’m not weak just cause I’m a girl, I don’t throw myself at the feet of a man, and I definitely do not depend on one for anything, so why is it people state that women are the weaker gender? I mean not only men say it. I’ve heard quite a few older women say it too. I mean sure I have had my vulnerable moments in life where I turned to a guy for a shoulder to cry on. However plenty of guys have also cried on my shoulder also, I did not see them as weak, I did not judge it as a flaw of there masculinity, cause it happens right? We have already gained so many rights, so much independence; fought for pretty much every thing we have. Actually today most women are the higher income in houses, or CEO’s of huge multi-million dollar companies, it’s all really great. Why does it still not seem like enough? Maybe I’m wording it wrong and it makes me seem selfish but that’s not the case at all.

I am from a Hispanic background. My parents are from Spain, we are a lot different from most Latin cultured families, in most homes the woman is to stay home cook, clean and tend to the husband and children. Not my home, since I was young I was always told “Mija you need to go to school and get a good education, so you will never have to depend on someone else especially a guy.” Now I have achieved that I’m done with school I have a good job, every guy still seems to have this set mind that they are superior to me, I don’t think so....!! It’s not like I want women to be higher than men, but I don’t want them to be higher than women either.

I bet there are women all over the world that can just totally outsmart, outrun, out do plenty of men all over the world. That’s not the case though, I believe it’s the way the system is set up, men are always going to be viewed as the dominant gender no matter what despite the fact pretty much all they think about is sex, food, naked girls, and more sex. I don’t mean to stereotype the typical guy, but come on we all know it’s true. I don’t mean to be harsh on the male gender but there’s plenty of them out there that have been harsh on me and millions of other women out there, I wasn’t raised to be eye for an eye or tooth for a tooth, sometimes I have no choice cause something has to be done. Maybe one day Ill be this great famous person whether it be political or not and, I will be that person to make a difference even if it’s a small one.

What Jane said! At 18 you've already discovered the truth: women are way tougher than men and can handle so much more. Ignore all the naysayers! And keep writing...you're already making a difference.

You go girl! Way to be inspiring! I'd like to take that, bottle it up, and sell it to all my women friends. I'd say you already are making a difference.
