By the time we got to the meat department the cart was overflowing. He said, “I’ll be right back” and sprinted off. He came back with another cart! He started loading up!! It continued this way throughout the store. He said that we needed to try Ben and Jerry’s and Haagen-Dazs ice cream. I started to cry. He asked me why I was crying when we were supposed to be having fun. I told him that nobody had ever been this nice to me before. He told me that there were a lot of nice people out there; you just have to look for them.
When we got to the check out I started to bag the groceries. It came to over $300!!! Wow!!! He wrote a check, and the cashier asked to see his i.d. He looked at her, smiled, and said “trust me, it’s good.” He never did show her an i.d. and she just stared at him for a minute, and took it! I asked him if he got a tax write off on this or something, and he just laughed. When we got to my car, he told me that he would be right back. My car was loaded to the ceiling with groceries! He came back and pulled up in a big van. He opened up the back of the van, and there were piles of wrapped presents! He told me to take them home for the kids, and put them under the tree. I grabbed him and just cried. He let me hug him and we stood there getting soaked with snow, while I just sobbed. I told him I didn’t know why he did this, but I would never forget him. He thanked ME for allowing him to do this. He told me that I made HIS Christmas and thanked me!! He told me that good things will come my way when I do the right thing. He said that some day, if I’ m able, he wanted me to do this for someone else. I just nodded and hugged him again. I asked him if I could have his phone number, just so my kids and I could call him on Christmas to thank him. He jotted down a number and handed it to me.
