Bridging with Love

I didn’t know what to expect, as I rang the bell, knocking softly at the door. I was seeing her after 8 years. Life had been racing on. She would’ve become a little rounder, more Woman, than the girl I remembered…a little older maybe, with a few fine lines showing on her face. It’s her eyes that I remember, whenever I think of her. Large, a little limpid always, Hazel, with specks of brown when the Sun shines on them. If there is truth on this earth somewhere, it lies in those eyes. Whenever her eyes have settled on my face, the sheer molten lava of love that flows from them into me, is beyond the realms of my expressions and vocabulary. I don’t know why she loves me. There has never been anything between us, to give meaning to the word “love”, as used by us mere mortals. Nothing. I don’t even know, if I love her. Is this what they call Love? She exists in her universe and I exist in mine. There is no overlap anywhere. Except when she becomes Maya, the magician, and creates a bridge, between fantasy and reality…that’s when the souls, leave their respective universe and connect….as they would…that day….

She opened the door and smiled at me. She had been sleeping it seemed. Hi! She said and my insides melted. She looked ethereal, sitting across. She had not aged at all. The 15 years since I first saw her, had only added newer facets to her person, not robbing her of any of the charm…She wasn’t saying much, looking like a child, out of a deep slumber. I had to say something, to fill the crack between our universes. I didn’t realize I was talking continuously, telling her whatever came to mind. No, actually, telling her, whatever, I had not till then, allowed my mind to articulate……. She opened up a part of me, by her mere presence. A part, I myself didn’t know existed. She didn’t say much. Smiling, nodding, giving a brief reply, if I asked her something, shivering a little. Are you cold I asked her? Yes, she said, a little, and got under the covers.
