Three Qualities That Make Us Strong: Love, Faith and a Positive Attitude, Part 1

By: Ilona Waller (View Profile)

My story is about a person who struggled from birth and yet is still a productive individual in society today. Please allow me to tell her story, which I hope will help anyone going through any kind of sickness or disability, to never give up. I will tell this story in two parts, this is Part 1.

You can win the battle, but only if you keep pushing forward. We all control our own attitude by how we look at a situation; this will either help us or keep us down. We can either possess a negative attitude or a positive attitude in any situation. We are the one who must choose how we will see any situation. Allow me please to relate a true story of an individual I know who by seeking to find the positive in her life, faith in her Creator, above all, and love in their heart, has helped her survive over the years.

We will call this woman Ann. Ann was born with spastic Cerebral Palsy. Her parents had 9 other children before she was born. Ann was different and so her parents did not want her and so they gave her up to the state board of child welfare. Ann grew up in foster homes where people took care of her because they were paid. She was teased in school when she was allowed to go to school and soon she was no longer able to live in foster homes so they put her in an institution for retarded children. Only trouble with that is that Ann was not retarded.

Ann as a young girl did not give up but knew that someone had to love her because she had so much love in her heart to give to others. Ann somehow learned about the creator from the many the homes she was in and so she made her Creator her family. She would pray to him when she felt frightened or afraid. She would call God, he father, because she did not have a fleshly father. When she was asked where her father was, she would say in heaven.
