By that time, the old row-boat they were in had several inches of water in it and more coming in alarmingly fast, but somehow, they managed to get back to shore. Richard was shaking terribly from the exposure to the icy water. The river was way out in the country so they brought Richard to my house where we “thawed” him out. It took forever to get his body temperature back to normal but he had no ill effects afterward. I know he was eternally grateful the old boat was there and, even more so, for the courage shown by his “disabled” brother-in law who saved his life!
It’s apparent to me that God had a hand in the miraculous rescue that day. Too many pieces of the puzzle had to not only be in place but fit together. There’s no other explanation. It is popular and it “feels good” to believe we each have a guardian angel who watches over us and many people do believe that. Though I certainly do believe in angels and their varied works as told to us by the Bible, I think we do have to be careful not to misplace our faith. Let us never forget it is God who not only made the Angels in Heaven but it is He who gives them their assignments.
