My Life

By: Sue Zuercher (View Profile)

Trolling through the memories that occupy my mind
Never knowing, ever waiting, hoping that I find
whatever it takes to bring me joy to lift a heavy load
within the confines of my soul to get back on life’s road.
I will not rest, I will go on and face this life head-on
ever knowing where I’ve been and where my life has gone
I am now content to a varying degree
I look ahead to see what’s there, and see it’s only me.
I would ask for so much more to make my life complete
for happiness and love and such to fall down at my feet
But if that ever comes to pass and I hesitate to ask
to stand up and take control, take life as a task
Are we truly happy, do we truly dare believe
That life is just a memory, just a short reprieve
I will take what I have seen to take along with me
Enough to last a lifetime, to see what I can see.
