My husband is a Marine but ended his tour in the 70s.
He has persistent nightmares to this day of someone in black covering coming for him although he can never see his face, these are very intense dreams his whole body reacts to them, all ending in a scream. The intruder is always coming for him, in the form of a person or a black bird. In the dream this entity is coming through a window or wall but always for him.
I feel for him as so many other women do from the Vietnam era. He told me that he has taught himself to wake up by screaming, “it is a dream” and he does wake up with a scream, but the dreams do not stop.
