Sweet Dreams

What does it mean when we dream that someone we love dies in our dream? It means we are overly anxious about their safety because we believe they are doing something that places them in danger either at work or through their hobbies or leisure activities. Does God send us warnings that someone will die soon? No, He never does. God is a loving Father who would never cause us to dream about something that is extremely hurtful for which we have no control.

A recurring dream that I have, and have had throughout my life, is always played out in a school building. I am always lost, wandering the halls and crying from fear and confusion. The schools vary—likely because I attended several schools as a child—but the circumstances are always the same. I can not find my classroom, the bell has rung and everyone is where they belong behind closed doors except me. I am so lost and only six years old. I fear getting sent to the principal’s office and severely punished. Because my family had moved during my second grade school year, I had to learn a new school. I was only six years old due to the fact that I started first grade at the age of five. I remember the day as though it happened last week. (We always remember extraordinary circumstances from our childhood.) I had gotten turned around and was searching frantically for my room when a teacher yelled at me to stop. She approached me as she admonished me for being in the hall after the tardy bell had rung. I was crying as I told her that I was lost. She had no pity for anyone. She snatched me up by my arm and practically drug me to my classroom. I never told my mother about the incident. I did tell my sister who is a year older than I am. She made sure I found my way until I could do it on my own. Now, whenever I am facing uncertainties in my life that cause me to fear, I have this schoolhouse dream. It is based on actual circumstances and is easy for me to determine why I dream that dream at specific times in my life. If you look closely at some very memorable times in your life, you can understand why you have some dreams more than once and why you have them at certain times.
