- Buy two international cell phones before traveling and have them juiced. Check out International Cell Phones. This way, if either parent gets separated, you’re just one call away. Program it, or your Blackberry, with your hotel number, your travel agent, and any other important numbers that you may need to phone from the airport if you’re running late, so you don’t have to desperately search for money or exchange money to make a phone call.
- Exchange some money before you go—just enough to cover one day—so you can buy a snack or pay cash for a cab if necessary without having to wait in more lines at the airport. (Pulling out money from an ATM provides a better exchange rate and guarantees that you aren’t holding too much cash on you at any point.)
Planning for Accommodation:
- Email the concierge or owner of the flat you are renting with a picture of the type of crib you need. This way, there will be no misunderstanding of what you need.
- Ask ahead of time for a referral for baby-sitters. Cities like London and Paris have wonderful “child-minder” companies.
- If staying in a hotel, make sure it’s one with transportation to and from the airport and inquire if they have a car seat to use.
