Dubai draws much of its population from other Arab countries, the Indian subcontinent, and Western countries. Most people wear their national dress including Abayas, Saris, and two piece tunic and pants for women, making Dubai a very colorful place. Western woman are allowed to wear Western clothing, but please be respectful of the Muslim culture. In public, modest clothing is preferable with skirts at or below the knee, keeping shoulders and knees covered while in public places.

Nightlife

At hotel bars and nightclubs a more relaxed dress code is allowed. As a single women traveling to Dubai, you will receive special perks, such as “ladies night” free drinks and appetizers at some bars because there is a shortage of women. Men aren’t allowed to harass women in Dubai and can be publicly shamed if they are reported. Crime is rare with the enforcement of Sharia law, which makes for an ideal travel destination. Pick up the local events and entertainment magazine, What’s On, to stay on top of the scene.

Hospitality and Dining

Dubai continually surprises with its flair for being over-the-top. This is the home of six-star service which sounds implausible until you experience it. The one-of-a-kind Burj al Arab (all suites) hotel, designed as a billowing sail, is the epitome of Dubai. The lobby has an atrium in which the Eiffel Tower would fit. A gold fountain shoots water upwards into the atrium, and if this makes you think of the Bellagio Hotel fountains in Las Vegas, then extra points for you beause they were both designed by one and the same.

As a guest of the hotel, you will be collected from the airport in a Rolls Royce Silver Seraph and delivered to the hotel. The adventure doesn’t stop there. You will have a variety of culinary choices including a world-class seafood restaurant providing transport via a simulated submarine ride. If you prefer Italian cuisine, Venezia provides all of the charm of Venice, including indoor canals complete with a gondola and gondolier, and a full wine cellar that allows diners to visit the cellar to sample and select their wine. For an authentic Middle Eastern culinary experience, you must visit Mazazaak at the thirty-seventh floor of the World Trade Centre. It has a tented structure offering beautiful views of the City, authentic Arabic live music, the best mezzas (Mediterranean tapas) and Shisa pipes filled with fruit-flavored tobacco, a perfect compliment to every meal.
