Women’s Retreat and Celebration with Sofia Diaz
Crestone Mt. Zen Center, Crestone, Colorado
Every August, a girlfriend’s favorite yoga instructor, Sofia Diaz, teaches a one-week workshop for women. This year’s retreat, The Grace of Form: The Inside & Outside of Women’s Yoga is a perfect example of what Sofia teaches best—what it’s like being in the feminine form. My friend explained her favorite yoga week each year with, “Sofia’s instruction offers the experience of divine feminine nature,” which is perfect for all my divine needs.

Rolling Meadows Yoga and Meditation Retreats
Maine, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Guatemala
Retreats in Tulum, Mexico, Bequia, The Grenadines, and on Lake Atilan, Guatemala might make my daydream sessions realized. A quiet respite in nature with water a stone’s throw from my yoga mat to soak in after a day of sun salutations, well, yes, I could handle that. Their main retreat center in an 1840s’ farmhouse on one hundred acres along the coast of Maine sits overlooking hills with walking paths through woods, a flock of grazing sheep, and flower gardens. Guests practice hatha yoga, restorative poses, pranayama breathing, mindfulness meditation, silence, and unstructured time to walk, cross-country ski, swim in their spring-fed pond, or soak in the wood-fired sauna. I think I’ll just have to travel to the other three to make sure the Maine retreat center is the place for me.

Baron Baptiste Bootcamps, Retreats & Workshops
Yoga bootcamps on a seven-day Mexican Riviera cruise, teacher training on the Big Island of Hawaii, Day-long immersions in New York, or forty days of yoga at his Cambridge, Massachusetts studio—no matter where Baron Baptiste is, he’s bound to make you sweat for it. Baron started yoga at the age of seven and turned it into a lifestyle. Yoga Journal magazine reported, “If there were a royal family of American yoga, Baron Baptiste would certainly be a prince.” If you don’t mind a crowded studio and your neighbor’s sweat dripping on your jute mat, then prepare to watch your tummy turn to tight.

There are also lots of yoga centers in pretty places that offer 10 day trainings-- kind of a make-your-own retreat (and your own budget). I know that the Triyoga center in Santa Cruz, CA has them often (www.triyoga.com)-- you come to Santa Cruz and they'll help you find a place to stay, you do some yoga every day but also have time to walk in the redwoods, eat organic food, wander the beaches and streetfairs... It's a great way to set your own pace.
