For Your Amusement: A Guide to Roller Coasting

Summer is quickly approaching. If you are looking for a vacation spot that ensures fun in the sun, a good amount of walking, and coming face-to-face with your own mortality, then look no further than an amusement park! To prepare yourself for the journey, take a look at these dizzying videos of roller coasters. Remember: the louder the screams, the more fun the ride … right?

The Tallest and the Fastest: Kingda Ka

Kingda Ka, located at Six Flags Great Adventure & Wild Safari in New Jersey, is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. It gets up to speeds of 128 miles per hour in just three and a half seconds. Just to put that number in perspective, that’s probably less time than it took you to read that last sentence.

The Longest: Steel Dragon 2000

Steel Dragon 2000, the current record-holder (according to Roller Coaster Database) for longest roller coaster in the world, calls Nagashima Spa Land in Japan its home. As you can see from the video, its height is also quite impressive—it held the title of tallest roller coaster until 2003. Though I can’t understand what the narrator is saying in the video, I would imagine it’s something along the lines of, “Gee guys, look how high up we are.”
