Alpine Enthusiasts
It is not surprising that ski resorts would cut rates to attract hikers and other outdoorsy types during the snow-free fall. But did you know that deals abound even in prime winter periods? In Switzerland, for example, timing is everything. Most resorts there consider mid-November to mid-December and the last three weeks of January to be low times. So planning a pre- or post-Christmas ski trip yields substantial savings. If you avoid Easter, hitting the slopes in spring is another option because prices drop again from the end of March (or earlier in low altitude resorts like Gstaad) through April. Switzerland’s tourism Web site posts packaged specials (usually starting in early fall), so check it regularly.
