Everyone Needs a (Spring) Break

By: Jillian Ryan (View Profile)

Here’s a stat I’m forcing myself to consider: nearly 40 percent of American vacationers feel more relaxed, happy, and productive upon their return home. I want to be more relaxed. I want to be happy. I want to be productive. I want to be on vacation …

You know you do too! Let’s start a chain reaction here people: let’s actually use up our full vacation time and heck, demand even more! Be spontaneous; if you’re carrying over vacation time from last year, take it. Stop waiting for the planets to align so that all your work is done and everyone will bless your departure. There’s no time like the present. Book a trip today—just go wherever you can get the best bargain (and the worst internet connection!).

Within a week, you can be relaxing in the Caribbean, under a palm tree with a pretty drink in hand, catching up on your US Weekly gossip. Just make sure to avoid the crazy Spring Break crowds in Cancun and South Padre Island in Texas in order to maximize comfort and the benefits of your much-needed break.

I leave for Phoenix, Arizona next week (blackberry and laptop will rest at home) and cannot be happier that I have found—or rather, made—the time for my very own Spring Break.

Yeah, I know what you mean, darlin'! Once you get out of school, Spring Break just ain't the same. When I was at Brazoswood High School, back in the olden days, the big "thang" was goin' to South Padre Island to party, or sometimes we would just drive a hour and go over to Galveston Island. When I was at the University of New Orleans, it was partying in Biloxi. That's a wild beach town during spring fling.
