Have You Experienced Retail Rage?

By: Jacinta O’Halloran (Little_personView Profile)

I invoked the wrath of a little old lady when shopping this morning. Apparently I had skipped the line at checkout. She called me a “big fat bitch!” I was shocked (I knew those jeans made me look fat) and apologized profusely. She continued to abuse me across the floor, down the escalator, and onto the street. I can’t imagine ever feeling such retail rage. Have you ever lost it or had someone lose it on you in a store?

Yes, I too have noticed retail rage especially at the grocery store. You have to be careful of the do it yourself checkout isles. The cashiers' have very snotty attitudes if you can't figure out how the system works. And God forbid that there is a backup of people. The customers really get angry. I haven't had the verbal abuse at the grocers but i had a cashier at a corner store try to disrespect me when ordering lottery tickets. The people will make you put your religion in your pocket to deal with them. The stores seem to be understaffed at the beginning of the month and it can get really touchy at that time. I try to stay out of the stores as much as possible because who knows when someone is going to get crazy and start shooting.

Yes it happened to me and I couldn't have been more shocked at how we both behaved...It happened at a book store and a lady who was perusing the fare was standing in the middle of the aisle - I said "Excuse me" to get around her - nothing. "Excuse me, may I get by?" - nothing. I finally kind of huffed and shoved by her after which she insulted me and I zinged back at her (of course feeling quite justified). Suddenly, at the same time we both looked at each other and apologized profusely - we both realized that we had forgotten who we were for that ugly moment and were completely ashamed of the breakdown. So instead of it ruining my day, it restored my hope and belief that most people really are decent - after all I had behaved the same way she did and I believed I was a good person.

Yo, Rachel! What's U-scan? Now don't get pissed off, darlin'! I'm just one of those old farts that thinks a store should leave the scanning to paid employees ... cheap-ass stores1

Nah! I'm a funny guy who can cut a one liner when tension mounts. I've always been a buffer, an equalizer for all events. I guess that's why I'm still aroun'.

I was shopping with a friend in a major department store. I picked out a shirt for purchase and proceeded to the register. There was no one on line, so I went right up to the register and placed the shirt on the counter. The clerk behind the counter had seen me approach but continued gathering all the clothing items that the customers had decidedly not to purchase. I stood there patiently watching her collecting all the different pieces of clothing. Finally when she had amassed all the clothing, she plopped the pile on the counter on top of my shirt. She looked at me and said with a smile, 'I'll be with you as soon as I put all these away'. That was the turning point when I lost it. I told her, 'NO, you do that on your own time. You have to take care of the customers before you take care of your own mess'. After this incident, I have a reserve about shopping at this major department store.

I've seen it happen to other people. It hasn't happened to me yet. But then, I haven't really been retail shopping or so long (I need a LOT of new clothes), I'm probably due for an attack or 2...

I get so pissed at the people that do not know how to use the U-scan at the grocery store. if you don't know how to use it, get out of the way. Especially at 11:00 on a Sunday.
DMV rage, yes (me). Grocery story rage, yes (scary lady). Retail rage, no.
I'm usually pretty happy when I'm shopping, so haven't lost my cool. Behind the wheel I have gotten pretty upset at other drivers though...
