The Value of a Good Purchase

By: Amanda Coggin (Little_personView Profile)

I’m not one to drool while I walk by a dress hanging in a decadent window (shoes with a stunning heel are another story), but I can appreciate the value of a good purchase. In recent years, I have turned over a new leaf. I try to avoid succumbing to what I want, and rather stick to what I need, with minor exceptions to the rule for large purchases. What I find by shopping this way is that my purchases are meaningful and they keep giving back, like a crazy night with out-of-town girlfriends, or a sexy evening with a previous lover that only my journal heard about. These items don’t put me out too much, and bring more happiness than I could ever have anticipated. From here on out, this is the only kind of shopping I ever want to do.

iPod with Sony Earbud Fontopia Headphones
I didn’t run with the popular crowd and waited until last year to buy my first iPod. I didn’t realize how attached I was to it until it was stolen last week. With 80GB and over 7,000 songs, shuffle had a way of surprising and reminding me—shuffling memories along with the beats. These headphones should only be used at 70 percent capacity to protect your ears, and keep them in their carrying case as the rubber covers fall into the abyss if not placed back into their carrying case. My earbuds made Chris Martin of Coldplay sound as if he was serenading me on the bus, because Chris Martin in the morning is better than any caffeine.

Saka Pinda Yoga Backpack
I’m that woman on public transportation who carries too much work (my purse is filled with my journal, a book, and groceries to keep in the office fridge) and on yoga day I’m whacking people left and right. Fortunately, my yoga bag was a decade old and fell apart, which warranted a new purchase. My new yoga backpack might very well turn into my purse: it has extra compartments for gear, a spot for an iPod (for when I replace mine in due time), and a place for my water bottle and even my book!

This was such a helpful article. I've been on the fence about an I.Pod. I'm off on a trip in April that requires a long plane trip and an Ipod filled with favorite music and a book or two will be just the thing. Most of all, thanks for the idea of donating to Woman for Woman. I watched that horrific 60 Minutes segment on the women in the Congo also and now I know what I can do to help.

Wonderful ideas! Not sure if I can talk my husband into composting, but it sure does make "cents" :) Helpful article, thank you. (xoxo)
