A small space with 3 chairs, a full 20 minute drive away. Out of loyalty, I gave the owner a month's notice. She was a bit shocked and promptly gave me the cold shoulder. Hey, for her business is booming. The salon is crawling with employees who sell products, so much so that she's opening another business. On a Tuesday the place is so full of bodies one can barely hear ones own thoughts, let alone a conversation with your client. For me, this isn't progress. I miss the days of camaraderie and craft. Doing hair is an art, after all.
There was no going away party for me, needless to say. In fact, she didn't even tell everyone that I was leaving. I found that out on my last day and it was a little weird. I had been there for 6 years after all. But somehow I wasn't surprised. After all, if she can't acknowledge me while I'm there, it sure isn't going to happen when I'm gone. C'est la vie.
