My Calling

By: Carlos Hernandez (View Profile)

Wow!

First time blogger and I was inspired after meeting Rebecca Weeks, VP of Business Development at Real Girls Media, SF. She was a guest panelist at BlogWorld and New Media Conference which took place in Las Vegas from November 7–9.

Attending the conference was on the behalf of my new business colleague and boss, Ms. Starla Sireno, Founder and Executive Business Coach of “The Fearless Entrepreneur,” San Francisco.

I’m her Chief Marketing Officer and we intend to grow our brand presence nationally and in the blog-o-sphere or is it blogosphere?

Here’s the best part … I made a big decision in February 2007 to leave my corporate employer after twenty-eight years of service! I also decided to make a big career transition jump and find meaningful work in another sector like non-profit, travel, or entertainment. I met Starla at the Small Business Administration, San Francisco and her talk titled “Being Fearless” caught my eye. Why? Because I was full of fear … but smart enough to go learn how to overcome it.

Six months later I made another decision to leave the traditional job search market and strike out on my own to help other BabyBoomers with their career transition issues. If you are lucky, you have a professional career outplacement firm help with the process … if not … one is stuck with the traditional unemployment office. So I decided to hire Starla to help me in my entrepreneurial venture. We met … shared my dreams … and presto!  She wants me to help grow her business!!

OMG!

You mean I can actually do what I love? Meet and help people realize their own dreams?

You betcha!

As Chip Conley, Founder and CEO of JoiedeVivre Hospitality has written in his book, PEAK: How Companies Get Their Mojo, some of us find a job … others a career … and a few of us do our calling!

Count me in!

So, Carlos, now that you have piqued my interest, what exactly does Starla do and what will you be doing to grow her business?
