I compare it with being a mother; no one give us an instructional manual telling us what to do step by step; we learn by ear. All the methods, theories and strategies learned in college are still not enough to deal successfully with the day-to-day situations in the classroom. The students of the 21st century face a wide variety of struggles, personal and cultural. Society seems to be crumbling down around them, families suffer from lack of love and attention and every day, the education systems pull us down with more and more pressure. Teachers are mothers, sisters, counselors, psychologists, aunties and much more. Our job does not end when the school closes.
Time has gone by. Today I can still say that teaching high school students is my passion and mission. Every day I wake up looking forward to look at each one of my students faces, see what their eyes would tell me, what would make me laugh, and the obstacles we would face together.
I still get the same comment every time I am asked about what I do for a living. The most common one is: “You poor thing. Bless your heart. I don't want to be in your place.” To them I just say: Passion is where my heart is and teaching is what I was born to do.

Spoken truthfully! Why do people feel the need to give pity when no one's asking for it! Thanks for this piece, and good luck with your dream job!
