What’s Your Dream?
By: Lori Harfenist (View Profile)
When you were a child, did you ever imagine you’d be doing whatever it is you’re doing as an adult now? Did you give up your dreams for a specific event, like getting married or pregnant? Did your dream fade away slowly, almost imperceptibly? Or, are you one of the few who is still following your childhood dream?
Sometimes dreams are just outgrown. After I saw Goldie Hawn in Seems Like Old Times as a kid, I wanted to be a lawyer with a bunch of dogs and a big house. But then I learned what a lawyer actually does, and that dream blinked out as fast as if I had clapped it right off.
Sometimes dreams are just impractical. I thought I wanted to be the first female President (like all good, dorky little girls), and while that still sounds pretty awesome (go Hil!), I really just don’t have the stamina, physically or mentally, for politics.
There are so many reasons why childhood dreams don’t come true. But to me, that’s no reason to stop dreaming. I still hold onto my dream of making a big, fat difference in the world through my work, which has morphed into hosting and producing my show, “The Resident.” I still work tirelessly toward making this dream come true.
I wish more people worked toward their dreams still, even if it’s a brand-new dream. Because without dreams, it’s hard to stay focused and accomplish anything, really. So, I’m curious to know if you’re following your dreams. And if not, what’s stopping you?
You know you've got something to share. Maybe it's something funny, touching, inspirational or informative. Whatever it is, your circle of friends here at DivineCaroline would love to hear from you.
