Everyone has need for part-time work in college, at least in my economic neighborhood. So, I decide to respond to an ad for a customer service representative needed in my area, work from home job description. I go to the website and the letter of introduction and employment needed posting looked real and enticing. I clicked to the Application site and started filling out the form. I made my way along the boxes, entering information and got to my social security number and stopped. Some overpowering feeling, and sensible thought kicked in and I said to myself, “not on the net”. I could not continue, I clicked out of the whole application leaving behind my name, address, and phone. I did not know that until, on my computer in my mailbox, I received a welcome letter. What? I thought, had I not stopped and removed my information, oh no, obviously not. Damn!
I got online and said, not interested, thanks anyway. Three weeks later, a fed-ex came to my door with a large envelope. I greeted them, I was surprised by a fed-ex delivery. I signed for the envelope, walked back in the house and opened the envelope. Inside, two checks with same amounts $2,500.00 from same person and account, etc. I was shocked. What the hell is this? Did I have some benefactor I did not know about? Did I win a contest? All this wild thinking trying to make sense of this phenomena coursing through my mind. Finally, I gave up. I had no answer, I called the person on the envelope and needed to know where, how and whys of this situation.
The person on the other end of the phone was a young woman who said, Its for you from my employer and I said, “Who is your employer?” Kelvin Klin, was the name she gave. I said, “Cute are you kidding me Kelvin Klin?” Laughing I said, “No really who?” She did not repeat the parody of a name. I said, “What am I supposed to do with the checks? I don’t want them,” and she said, they are for you, keep the money, send it I don’t care. I hung up, thinking what’s happening here.
