There’s also the question of lease vs. purchase, and there are lots of reasons to go each way. (Real reasons, not the ones they tell you.) This rule only applies to certain manufacturers, and certain dealer groups, but not all of them, and I know which ones will do this for you (or me) and which ones won’t.
Used cars aren’t always lemons.
Due to the increased manufacturing of all vehicles in the last few years, and the insanely hyperactive incentives mentioned above, there are a TON of low mileage, showroom quality pre-owned gems on the market right now, and they can cost substantially less than purchasing a new one. And, for a fee, most used vehicles can be certified, which brings you even greater peace of mind. The key is to understand which one is worth the money, and where to find it, and I know the answers already!
Now, how do you pay for it? Financing doesn’t have to be a problem.
One thing about car loans that most people don’t understand is the fact that banks want you to buy cars, but like any other business, banks need to make money. Just ask the guys at Bear Stearns about this. Some banks that finance to the car industry are more willing than others to “go out on a limb” to put you into a car.
If your credit is spectacular (about 7 percent of the population), then you will always get good rates, but still, some dealers can do better than others, and I know which ones these are.
