Tempest

By: Bill Charles (View Profile)

The sea of angst whipped by winds of fear

            Wash angrily over me,

            Drowning me in tears

            And confusion.

Rescue lies out of reach,

            The distant shore beckons,

            But, I cannot reach its refuge;

            My strength weakens and wanes.

Wave after wave pound me relentlessly,

            Stinging my eyes, blurring my vision;

            The salty froth engulfs me

In despair and in unquenchable pain.

Hopeless and alone, I cannot endure for long.

            How have I managed to

            Founder in such a disturbance,

            A storm of my own creation.

Speak, Oh Lord, and the tempest will abate.

            For the wind and the seas

That torment my soul and my being

Obey your divine command.
