Teri Hatcher is one of the big stars at Sundance. She’s here for her new movie, Resurrection of the Champ, also starring Josh Hartnett, Samuel L. Jackson. The latter two have the larger roles. The movie’s Friday premiere was held at an auditorium just off the main drag and was packed with every seat taken. Josh, Sam and Teri walked in at the same time. Lots of people took photos. Teri, whose hair seems darker hair than when I saw her last spring, was with her new boyfriend, Stephen Kaye. They quickly grabbed seats next to Camryn Manheim. Teri’s boyfriend ran his hand through her hair as she smiled and laughed, talking with several people.
The movie is good and shows that Josh Hartnett has serious acting chops. He certainly holds his own against Samuel Jackson, who also gives a stellar performance. However, it gets mixed reviews. I remember interviewing Josh at the junket for Black Hawk Down a few years ago. He was very shy and soft spoken. And, when I asked him about his girlfriend at the time, who was not in the business, he only laughs. No way is this reserved dude going to dish.
Ok, let’s set the record straight about the Sundance Film Festival. It isn’t what it might seem. First of all, it’s in Park City, not Sundance. Secondly, most people don't spend their days and nights in movie theatres. Screenings are held in all kind of places - from high school auditoriums to the local library. So, seats are limited. Better than half the people at the festival are here to be seen and just have fun. And lastly, it is a hoot and frenetic, but not necessarily glamorous. It’s not like being in Aspen over the holidays, where the streets are a catwalk of resort chic. People dress down here. It’s more mountain chic. However, there are plenty of star sightings. Here are some of mine.
Friday night, shopping for groceries at Albertson’s. A rather strangely dressed man is wheeling his cart dangerously close to mine. I veer left to avoid a crash. It’s Jared Leto. He has very dark, almost piercing eyes, and a two day-old stubble. He’s wearing very skinny jeans, white trimmed Converse sneakers, and a wool overcoat and 1950’s style man’s dress hat that were undoubtedly picked up at thrift shop. If he’d had a fedora, the outfit would have been complete as totally freaky. The local check out girls, however, were completely engrossed.
