Ruby and the Circus of Oz

This turned out to be a tough gig—performing over the ice, in a freezing cold auditorium, with my neck still stiff from Oz. I’d warm-up in a heated room, only to get onto a little rolling wooden stage/platform thingy that the skaters would push out onto the ice … I was covered in blankets until the first chords of the Spanish music accompanying my act began. Oy ve, it was bloody cold! I’d barely get warm by the end of my act. Usually—come hell or high water—whatever the gig conditions, relations with directors, etc., I enjoy the actual act of performance. But over the ice, my internal dialogue while flying on my trapeze was pretty much: “Exude presence, the audience might be 200 feet away from you over cold ice, but they deserve a smiling, inspiring trapeze act … only three more sequences to go, and then you can get off this cold ice and into the warm sun. Smile.” Despite all that, I got some decent footage from the Sky and Ice show, and some of that is spliced into this short video clip.
