I host a life-drawing class at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, one of many life-drawing venues in the SF/Bay Area. It’s an open, ongoing, drop-in class.
These seven drawings are from a Friday night life-drawing class. The drawing titles describe the drawings and occasionally contain other information.
“Friday Night”
This was a one- or two-minute pose; my goal was to define plans.

“On the Delta”
A twenty-minute pose. Years ago, I rented a cabin on the Delta. The place was calming and filled with summer.

“Gesture”
That first image—trying to understand the whole in a fleeting moment.

“Bob’s Fine Charcoal on Watercolor Paper”
Materials can be a mystery. I just received a box of Bob’s Fine Vine Charcoal from Ron Graff, professor of fine arts at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. This was the last drawing of the evening. Bob’s Charcoal feels good.

“Backyard”
Composition is what excites me. I like to explore the rectangle. Horizontal and vertical lines can help ground a figure.

“SF Bay Bridge”
A prone pose. Foreshortening is the theme of most prone poses. The bridge was a safe passage back home to Oakland.

“Life Drawing”
The one-minute dance, a figure in space. Keeping it simple, but observing all. Lots of room for change.
