The Great American Potluck

By: Michael House (View Profile)

No recipe but a story. I am from Utah and yes I am Mormon. The only point is our meetings are very calm almost understated. I moved to the Mid-West and encountered the Southern Baptist culture. Loud, full-bore religion. Now here is the thing; on the first Sunday of every month there was a pot luck dinner and man could these women cook. So on that Sunday I would quietly sit right by the door all the way to the back and of course enjoy great food. One Sunday though, there was a glitch. The priest was going on about sin and he was up to full steam. He said. “There are sinners in our town. There are sinners in our neighborhoods. There are sinners right here.” And I swear he pointed at me and screamed, “SINNER!” I broke the sound barrier getting out of that door. I lived in fear until I finally got back to Utah. I knew they were searching for me.

Yeah! You got to watch out for those Southern Baptists...they're against anyone who's not a Baptist and think everyone else is a sinner. I'm Methodist who has two ex-wives who were Catholic...they told me that I was destined to burn in Hell! I told'em I'd keep the light on for them while sippin' iced water and fornicating.
