He Promised Me – A Christmas Poem

By: Bill Browne (View Profile)

He promised me, he promised me,
He would never get a cat
or costume me as super-dog,
or make me wear a silly hat.

But he said at Christmas time,
people need joy and cheer,
and this would be the picture,
just this once, this time, this year.

Then he took this silly photo,
wrote a poem and sent it to you,
so you better be smiling and happy,
or I’ll tell you what I’ll do.

On the closet floor,
he keeps in their original box,
his favorite pair of shoes.
Along with matching drawers,
and ties and socks.

If you don’t smile and think of us,
during this Christmas season.
I’ll be opening that box,
and that’s where I’ll be pee’in.

Excellent rhyming flow, with a gut busting ending. Very funny!
