I took up surfing kind of late in life, so I enrolled in the Paskowitz Family Surfing Camp to speed up my progress. One of the Paskowit brothers had been involved in visual merchandizing work for Quiksilver retail shops. He had used his skills to “theme out” the camp with giant tiki sculptures, old surf boards, and palm fronds. One afternoon the waves were kind of flat and everyone took off to play golf or drink. I stayed alone at the camp and made a couple of paintings.
