I am thrilled that it is filled with fear, mastery, and pushing myself beyond imaginary boundaries. I am able to continue my complex love affair, and finally, my competitive bank account no longer runs in the red. Though cycling has not yet taken me out of the country, it does require a lot of time training and traveling to races both locally and in nearby states. I recognize that this time often takes me away from family activities, but I just can’t imagine being truly happy if I allowed it to be any other way.
It really must be true that our first love has a profound effect on the love we seek in the future. Who knew a typical nine-year old girl in love with a horse would find her way to fulfillment through the emotionally complex world of competitive sport?
