Switching To Re-Usable Water Bottles

By: 10% Solution (View Profile)

We try to adopt a new green practice at home, each month. The one that appears to be having a huge impact is switching from plastic water bottles to stainless or aluminum re-usable bottles. We chose the Sigg water bottles, because they are cute, fun, and inexpensive.

Reduce Impact:

Our consumption of bottled water was, at least, a case every month, and, we were using the bottles for a week before we recycled them. However, since we have switched to our Sigg bottles, we have only purchased one case in the last 4 months and that was only for holiday parties and guests.

Getting Noticed:

We always get comments on our Sigg bottles from people at stores, airports, movie theatres…etc. People either notice the cool designs or just that fact that it is not a disposable plastic bottle. We like that the Sigg bottle makes a statement with design and function. Now if you don’t want to make a design statement then choose a monochromatic bottle…they have a bottle to suit every personality.

Gifts:

We decided, since we can’t keep a good thing to ourselves, to give Sigg bottles as gifts throughout year. They are an inexpensive gift for friends or for the family (they have, lifestyle, sport, classic, and kid bottles and many sizes).

 Only Issue:

The only problem we have found is finding a good selection of bottles at stores that carry them. We have had mixed results at REI and Adventure 16 (in southern CA). Sometimes they have a nice big selection and other times, much smaller. However, you can order online from both companies. We have always had good luck at Whole Foods and the selection is consistent. You can also order direct from the manufacturer website and it is a fun site to visit. Check out mysigg.
