Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

Boxers inspire me. They're forced to roll with the punches. That's what I have to do each and every day of my life.

My Maw-maw and Paw-paw have always been my inspiration. Ever since I was baby I have been fasinated with them. In my eyes my maw-maw hung the moon and my paw-paw walked on water. The were 2 of the most hard working people ever even into their 80's. I loved their stories about their lives when they were younger. And anyone around them could feel the love the felt for each other. You know how they say that girls marry men like their fathers. Not me (although I love my daddy) I married a man who is just like my paw-paw, and I work to make my marriage as happy and as lasting as theirs. They are both gone now and it breaks my heart everyday. I wish I had one more day with them. Especially so they could meet my 4 year little girl, and so I could look my paw-paw in the eye and tell him I named my daughter after him. I will always try to make them proud of me, because I know I will see them again one day.

My older sister was my inspiration. She accomplished so much before being taken from this world.
My mother is the greatest inspiration on my life. I am the person I am today because my mother taught me by example to be a great ndividual. She inspires and encourages all of my dreams and I know there is nothing I want to do I cannot strive for. garrettsambo@aol.com

My friend, Dawn, leads the local NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), helping the mentally ill in our community, and their families, through support and guidance. She has given these people many hours of her time, and a true piece of her heart--shining some of her light on those who mentally and physically are unable to see.
Beautiful Dawn--the most caring friend any person could hope for, and be inspired by.

When I had just started homeschooling my first child 13 years ago, I wasn't sure I could do it right. Then I met another homeschooling mom with 4 boys. She really opened my eyes & helped to relax and enjoy teaching my son. Thanks Wendy! Only 2 more kids & 11 more years.
Without a doubt, I am inspired by my mother. She has been selfless and made me number one in her life thoughout all the ups and downs. I'm happy and well on my way to a sucessful career so I can repay her any way I can so she can enjoy her retirement.

I have had many inspirations in my life, but I would like to comment on the latest one. I was very inspired by my little granddaughter who was born with a heart defect. She endured two major open heart surgeries and struggled so hard to hang on. My daughter started a blog about Evangeline Marie, and literally hundreds of people were reading about her day by day struggles and how hard she fought. In her short 23 days, she touched lives from all over the world. There were comments coming in from as far as Singapore and Australia. Even tho she lost the battle, her spirit reached out to many, and she was truly loved.
