Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

I'd have to say it's my father. I have tried to sort out what to do and what not to do based on how what he did worked out.
Numerous people inspireme in different ways. My father, who works two jobs, and my mother, who is disabled, have taught me how to be humble and never believe my dreams are too far to reach. My boyfriend has inspired me to be more assertive and speak my mind. My human ecology teacher has inspired me to get more involved in my community and has taught me that one person CAN make a difference. They are my inspirations because they are the type of people I want to grow up to be. I already have completed my first year of college and achieved Dean's List which would not have been possible without any of them. I am closer to my dream of becoming a doctor because of them. I hope everyone has someone to inspire them because it makes a HUGE difference.

My grandfather has been my biggest inspiration in life. He taught me to be honest, work with integrity, and to work as hard as I can to achieve my goals. Without his advice and encouragement I would never have been able to achieve my goal of graduating college and now law school. I am forever grateful for his guidance.

My mother has definitely been my greatest inspiration. She has been a professional wife, mother, and grandmother nearly all her life, and she has taken that role very seriously. She has always told me that I can do anything I want to do! I only hope I can eventually be half the woman she is.

I find inspiration in the people who live their lives as honestly as possible and with simple dignity, like the corner grocer who would be horrified to find he had outdated food on his shelves or the bus driver who always helps people who can't board without difficulty. People who don't take ethical shortcuts. People who immediately return any extra money they may have been given in their change at a store and especially those parents who live their entire lives for their children.

My greatest inspiration is my mom.

Working with kids as always been my greatest inspiration. Even today at the age of 42 I am searching my niche, and it will have to be working with kids. I have always worked indirectly with kids because money was not there. I wish someone would have told me to stick with it after high school. I was a playmate at five years old for a child that was three, his mom always gave me pocket change for helping the sitter keep him occuppied. He ran in the street one day and I told his mom. The sitter and I both got fired. Who ever got fired younger than that? Kids are in the best positions in the world if they are guided and nurtured, and take heed of the positive resources to grow and become good citizens.
