Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

"This is my 30th school"
My inspiration is a 16 year old teenager that I have known since he was 2years old. When I met him, he was living with his single mother and three siblings in public housing. Over the course of 14 years, I remained in his life and watched as he changed schools 29 times. His mother often did not have rent money so they would often move in the middle of the night. I eventually took him in and now he is attending his 30th school where he will become the first person in his family to graduate from high school. Why does he inspire me? Because no matter what trying circumstances he experienced he remained faithful that the next day would be better. Having faith is one of the prized attributes a person can have in life. His life became a mirror to mine and now when I look at him I just know that I can make it through the roughest of days. "Faith" such a powerful little word.

My boys are my greatest inspiration. They have made me the woman I am today. I struggle and fail everyday at one thing or another, Cody and Ryan have always been my biggest fans and supporters. They tell me I am beautiful and the best at everything.. They always tell me I should write a book. They think my poetry is the greatest.. I guess it should be as they usually are my inspiration. They have not had an easy life themselves but I always smile when Cody looks at me and says," Why is your ora so dark".. It is so funny and I can't stop smiling.. I can be tired or just really stressed about work and can always, always count on them to make me smile. I am proud of them and as pleased that they are the young men they are. People give me the credit for who they are but I give them more credit for who I am. Thanks Cody and Ryan, You have made me the woman that loves you adn gets so much back.

A friend of my mother's - she has had breast cancer twice. She also has a Masters in Blood - her term. She attacked the cancer with everything she knew and everything ounce of her body. She is now 5 years cancer free and she has a beautiful tatoo ...you know where. She scared her plastic surgeon by wanting to bungee jump - one of her celebrations - but he taught her how to hold herself so she didn't hurt anything - He know shows her video jumping in his offices. She is amazing!
My biggest inspiration is my kids! They keep me goin!

My greatest inspiration is my mom. Only after I had children did I realize the profound and amazing life lessons she taught me. Even though cancer was taking her physical life, she bravely accepted it, and gave our family comfort in the joy of everlasting life with God. Her faith in God, her strength of character, and her open heart left a legacey I can only hope to uphold.
