Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My pets. They keep me company.

My mother is my inspiration. She raised my sister and I alone and worked so hard to make sure we had everything we needed. Even today if there's anything I need, my mother would be the person I'd turn to.

So many persons inspired me, eather real or fictional! First my family and my dearest 2 friends, than a lot of books :) So I really can't pinpoint the one person or event.

I would choose Winston Churchill. During the worst of times in World War II when Britian was bombed almost beyond recognition, and hope was gone, he made his famous speech to bring courage and hope to England; he ended it with the words "Never give up, never give up, never give up." This is inspiring to me - no matter what "Never give up."
My Mom. She never gave up and inspired all of us to do our best no matter what.

The greatest inspiration in my life was Albert Einstein. His book "Ideas & Opinions" greatly helped me achieve enlightenment and gain an understanding of life when I was eleven, and in future years, enabled me to conquer many foes and barriers that stood before me. Einstein was much more than just a scientist, he was a philosopher, artist, musician, and humanitarian. His intellectuality involved and covered so many avenues in this mortal journey, if the human race would just heed his teachings, the world be a far, far better place to exist in.

Definitely my mother--Mom has always taken care of everyone and still tries although she’s disabled. She was an army officer’s wife for twenty years, which includes obligations above and beyond those of most wives. She wanted to be a medical lab technician but instead took the roles of wife, mother, entertainer, volunteer, and politician to get married. She’s still taking care of me 38 years after my birth! She has also taken care of many of my friends over the years--giving them a place to stay, feeding them, giving them advice, or just listening when they needed to talk. Overall, she only has one child, but she has taken care of many throughout the years!

I would say my aunt because she's kind and understanding. She has also helped me out more than anyone else in my life-teaching me important lessons and giving great advice.

A truely inspiring person is Liviu Librescu, an engineering professor at Virginia Tech. When student/gunman Seung-Hui Cho went on a killing spree last April Professor Librescu, who survived the Holocaust, used his own body to barricade the door of his classroom, then he told his students to jump out of the windows. Because of Professor Librescu all but one of his students survived.
My Dad has always been my biggest inspiration. He raised five children on his own, he never complained once. Dad never re-married or brought women into our home. He respected his children and we love and respected him. Dad loved the outdoors and taught each of us to love it too! What a fisherman! Dad could have lived outdoors his entire life and he spent as much time outside as possible. Dad took us to Yosemite when we were younger for our summer vacations, not just a day or two, we camped for two weeks and loved every moment of it. He taught us to love mother nature and appreciate all she has given us. Dad was a master carpenter and created many beautiful things with his hands. Dad was also a master mason and did all the upgrades to our home himself. I know full well that all daughters think their dad is the best, but I tell you this humble man who read the encyclopedia to educate himself was the most honest, caring and loving man I have ever known and I miss him very much
