Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

my older brother, helped me in my first job and living a christian lifestyle.
My greatest inspiration has always been my Aunt Doris. She, despite having children of her own, took in 2 little girls whom had no one. After raising these children, she went on and had 2 more sons.I was one of the little girls. My son(my only child) grew up with her boys as if they were brothers. My Aunt took on much more responsibility than I ever could have.

My Aunt and Uncle. My mom was very sick for my entire childhood. We were very poor because of all of the medical bills. They took us 3 children to restaurants, vacations, etc. and showed us another whole world. They always made us feel loved and wanted.

My grama has always been my greatest inspration. My mom was killed in a horrible car accident when I was six and my dad fell apart and ceased being a dad. My grama stepped in and took me to live with her. All the things she taught me I could never learn in school. She is the most unselfish person I have ever known. She taught me how to love again. She is my heart and my soul.

I've never had children of my own, but I've done alot of babysitting over the years and I have been most inspired by all the moms. They way they multitask their personal and business lives and hire me just so they can have a few moments to theirselves.
I friend of my wife's mother named Chris inspired me to follow my dream of becoming a personal trainer and helping people. I am now certified and am looking to get my second one. Without his help I still would have been lost.

I guess that the greatest inspiration in my life was my mother, who raised a large family with my dad, worked a full time job, and was a great example for us all as a mother, teacher, spiritual advisor and just a good human being. She was the perfect example of a sourthern belle.

My Mom and my Grandmother without a doubt.
Have to be my mom right now that does it most for me after all she has gone through in her life

I've always been somewhat underwhelmed by politicians or famous people who acomplish enormous feats of charity or selflessness. It's fine and all, it just feels a bit fake and self-serving. Also, I'm not inspired when I hear of people overcoming illness or disability to do everyday activities. I'm glad for them and sad they have so much adversity, but not inspired. And I find people who run themselves into the ground doing for others the least inspiring. It's so sad and powerless. Like a long, painful, pointless suicide. And the 'loved ones' that stand by watching and getting waited on... yuck!

I'm inspired most by ordinary people. The people who manage to go to work at an ordinary job, come home to an ordinary family, pay the bills and meet needs on their ordinary pay rate, remain in love and faithful to their ordinary spouse, be a fair and loving parent to their ordinary kids, and are happy and content. They, in their ordinary way, do extrordinary good for everyone.
