Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My greatest inspiration is my differently abled daughter, Julia. She is developmentally delayed, had open heart surgery at age 2, and has lived through many medical issues that were scary to live through. She is a trooper and now is a lovely 22 year old young woman. She usually faces each day with a smile and she is involved with our extended community, both volunteering and working. She has taught or shall I say "re-taught" me many life lessons that I had not paid much attention to before she was in my life. And you know what I finally realised? All you need is love! Live in this very moment. Yesterday is history. tommorow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present!

My mom. She taught me everyone has something good in them, you just have to look for it.

Lately it seems as though I have been inspired by people who had experienced some type of horrific ordeal in their life that initially left them either emotionally destroyed or physically challenged. And in spite of what they have endured, they have risen above it, conquered the impossible and went on to achieve great things. Whenever I hear or read about such individuals, I get inspired to rise above my obstacles and continue to work towards my goals in life.

So many people have inspired me but most of all my husband. We have been together since we were teens and I am so proud of him.

Definitely my mom! She has always put her family first, and has spent her life doing what she loves. She's an artist and she paints every single day. I hope to someday be able to spend my life fulfilling my dreams like she does!

My mother is the strongest, bravest, most caring woman ever. She was a working mom who somehow managed to raise 3 kids and work her way up in the corporate world while still being active in our sports, schools and lives. Even when she was diagnosed with cancer, she did not give up...she beat it...for us. She now has no bladder and must wear a bag, but that does not stop her. She has spent the last two years caring for sick relatives, children and friends without a break for herself. She still makes every occassion special and memorable with her touches. She inspires those around her to be their best and to be strong with her love.
