Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My greatest inspiration was a teacher I had, who taught me that learning doesn't always have to be serious , hard work and can be something you do to have fun while enriching your life.

My greatest inspiration in my life was my father. It might not have been all his words of wisdom, definately not his instructions on what to do in my life because I fought it every day. I even had a page in my diary where I put "I HATE DAD". He is a very smart, strong, moral man. He did take care of his family. Working hard, mother never had to work a day in her life. He still tried to make family time. He bought a boat, tent, etc trying to get the family out and have fun. He took us on road trips to museums and state parks to broaden out minds. We never appreciated the effort he made then. After I became a mother I finally saw my father for what he was. I wish so badly I had listened to his words of wisdom. Do you know he was right about EVERYTHING! Ohh the pain he would have saved me from if only I knew that back then. He died a few years ago. At least he had some good years with my children and you know what? My son did listen to his advice. My son's Hero? Granddad!

My mom, because she is smart, beautiful, kind, generous, fun and very interesting.
The greatest inspiration in my life is my Mom ho lovingly took care of my Dad for the past four years at home while he was on kidney dialysis from complications from diabetes. He recently died, and my Mom is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after 58 years of maariage. My Dad played the saxaphone, and she is donating all his sheet music to a music school for disadvantaged students.

My son Dylan has been my greatest inspiration. He inspired me to finish college and grad school and make the best choices. I also learned that I couldn't take care of him if I didn't take care of myself. He's been the subject of some of my best writing, and the source of my happiest moments.

My dad. He was always so proud. He was filled with a dignity and a moral sense you rarely see anymore. He was just such a super guy. He tried to instill integrity and a sense of responsibility in us all. He worked his whole life, retired and worked some more. He had one of those dry senses of humor that sometimes you really had to look at him to see if he was kidding you. He lost both legs (one at a time) to diabetes, and yet he still got upon those prosthetics and got around. I was so proud of him. He was always my hero. I will always be grateful he was MY dad.

My mom had to be my greatest inspiration. Dad was busy working and mom was always there at school programs, hauling me to band practice, and most of all she kept after me to practice the piano. I am so glad she did. I relax by playing the piano.
