Who’s Been Your Greatest Inspiration Throughout Your Life and Why?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Every night I come home and turn on the evening news. At times it seems the world is in devastation and destruction. But today, and in the past, there have been individuals that have inspired and motivated me about what tomorrow will bring.

The greatest inspiration in my life was one of the actions Eleanor Roosevelt took as the First Lady. When she heard that the Daughters of the American Revolution were not letting Marian Anderson, an African American, sing at Constitution Hall, the First Lady removed any affiliation with the organization and then arranged for Ms. Anderson to sing at Lincoln Memorial. She could have ignored what was happening but she chose to take a very public stand on the issue.

We all can be inspired when hearing the stories of people who have done something out of the ordinary in this world. Is there someone who has inspired you and why?  Join the chit chat.

The giveaway ended May 23rd, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My greatest inspiration was Martin Luther King--he brought civil rights to the table for all of us.

My mother, she overcame tremendous hardships to raise our large family with my father a close second for working so hard for so many years to support us all.

My mother is my greatest inspiration. After dealing with us unruly kids for more than 18 years, she finally got rid of us and got breast cancer. She never one time got down on her situation, and kept doing the things she normally did such as going to work everyday, running her funnel cake business, doing her pet adoptions. She's a wonderful person who makes the best of her situations.

My Father in Law is my greatest inspiration. He took care of my Mother in Law for 5 years untill her death from Alzhiemers. She was 64 years old when she passed away she was just like a baby that needed feeding, changing and bathing. It was hard her him as he couldn't leave her alone and at times she was combative.

Its definitely my Mom. My dad died when I was only 14 and my mom was in her 30's. She was left with no breadwinner and three children to raise. She not only supported us, she took in over 250 foster kids! She taught us many things that have served us well throughout our lives. One of the biggest lessons we learned was that no matter how hard you have it, there is someone else who has it worse. So give whatever you can to others and the rewards will be great. I really believe this and have lived it all my life.

My inspiration was my father. He taught me to slow down and take the time to observe people, the countryside and nature. And to appreciate everything around me.

My great inspiration is my father. He has always been a great source of compassion and understanding. Everyone seems to go to my Dad when they need help and he's always there to help. Even more recently, my Parents are now in their 70's and he cares for my Mother full time. She had a stroke over a year ago and Dad helps her with "everything". SHe doesn't want any outside help, so he takes care of her, the house, cooking, etc. He's such a wonderful inspiration to myself and my children. He has so much patience and understanding.

My greatest inspiration was definitely my Dad. He taught me that I could do anything I wanted as long as I put my mind to it. He also always told me to treat people the way that I would want to be treated. Sadly, my Dad passed away two years ago ... the day after my son and I arrived in Virginia for our scheduled Christmas visit. My father had insisted that I come up there that year (which was very unlike him). I think he knew at the time that he didn't have long left to live and just wanted us up there.

I STILL think of him every day and miss him very much! But I also know that I have an angel looking down on me every day!

My greatest inspiration is my sister-in-law who has MS. She is wheelchair bound and has had many problems since Christmas, yet her attitude is fantastic. She is a world beater. God bless her and all MS patients.
